The Green Ripple: Salvation Army High School Leads the Charge on Plastic Waste

By Yall Editorial Team

On Friday, June 20, 2025, the hallways of Salvation Army High School in Gbarnga were filled with more than just the usual end-of-week excitement. Our Climate Justice Ambassadors took center stage, transforming the campus into a vibrant hub of environmental learning for a day-long awareness campaign on Plastic Waste Management.

Turning Awareness into Action

The initiative brought together scores of students and school administrators, creating a unified front against one of the most visible threats to our local environment: plastic pollution.

The goal was simple but profound: to shift the student body’s perspective on plastic from “disposable” to “manageable.” The Ambassadors led sessions that provided a broad-based knowledge of:

  • Campus-Level Management: How to implement effective collection points and reduce single-use plastics in the school canteen.

  • Community-Level Impact: Understanding how plastic clogging our local drainage systems contributes to flooding and environmental degradation in Gbarnga.

  • The Climate Connection: Explaining how reducing waste lowers our local carbon footprint and builds a more resilient environment.

Leadership in the Making

What makes this event truly special is that it was Ambassador-led. These young leaders didn’t just share facts; they shared a vision for a cleaner, greener Gbarnga. By engaging school administrators, they ensured that the conversation around waste management won’t end when the school bell rings—it will become a part of the school’s operational culture.

“A clean school is the first step toward a clean country. If we can manage our waste here, we can lead the change for all of Liberia.” — Climate Justice Ambassador

A Heartfelt Salute

We extend our deepest thanks to our Ambassadors at Salvation Army High School. Your initiative, leadership, and passion are exactly what this movement needs to thrive. You aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow—you are the changemakers of today.
