Empowerment & Advocacy FAQs

Since 2019, Youth Action Lead Liberia (YALL) has been at the forefront of community-driven change, reaching thousands through legal literacy and youth mobilization.
Below are the Frequently Asked Questions often raised by community members, partners, and supporters who share our vision for a just and resilient Liberia.

What is legal empowerment?

Legal empowerment is the process of enabling people to know, use, and shape the laws that affect their lives. It’s not about lawyers solving problems for people, but about giving communities the tools—knowledge, skills, and confidence—to claim their rights and seek justice for themselves. Our approach focuses on training community paralegals and advocacy committees to become their own champions.

How do you work with artisanal miners?

We recognize that artisanal mining is a critical livelihood for over 100,000 people. Instead of an adversarial approach, we aim to build partnerships. Our strategy for 2026 includes directly engaging and training miners on mercury-free techniques and educating them on their rights to safer working conditions. We aim to transform them from perceived perpetrators to partners in environmental stewardship.

How can I support YALL's work?

There are many ways to join our movement! You can partner with us on a project, donate to support our community workshops and youth programs, or help amplify our message on social media. Where does YALL operate?

Our primary area of operation has been in Bong County, where we have established deep roots in over 10 communities and 5 high schools. Based on our success and the clear need, our strategic plan for 2026 includes expanding our scope of operations into Lofa County, another region significantly affected by mining-related environmental and human rights violations.
